North-South Route
This cycle route starts in Basel in northern Switzerland and ends in the southernmost part of the country, in Chiasso, right at the Italian border. The North-South Route leads through diverse regions of Switzerland such as: Jura, Mittelland, and the Alps with a total distance of around 365-370 km.
Surface
The majority of the route consists of asphalt and paved surfaces (about 320-330 km), while the remaining surface is gravel/sand (30 km) and cobblestone (10 km).
Elevation
Most of the route is relatively flat (by Swiss standards). Additionally, there is one major climb just after the town of Andermatt and 3 smaller climbs, each with approximately 500 m of elevation gain.
