Overview
The Schuylkill River Trail is a mixed-use trail that runs from Philadelphia to Reading (the section from Reading to Frackville is not fully complete as of 2025). The trail is approximately 60 miles long. Most of the trail is fully paved and is suitable for road bikes as well as other bike types. Many sections of the trail are actually rail trails. At some points along the trail, you can still see the catenary wires.

You can explore each section of the Schuylkill Trail on the attached map on the left.
Additional information
Starting in Reading and finishing in Philadelphia makes it an easier ride as you slightly descend the whole way, and likewise, going the other way around involves a slight ascent, making the ride a bit more challenging.
How long to complete the trail?
If you have a full day available and you're an experienced road cyclist, you can plan to complete this trail in one day. For less experienced cyclists or cyclists on different types of bikes, two days would be more suitable.
